What is e-commerce development?
E-commerce development is building an online store where customers can browse products, pay and receive orders. A good store combines a product catalogue, a checkout with local payment methods such as UPI and cards, GST invoicing, shipping integrations and an admin panel to manage orders and stock.

Selling online in India is not just putting products on a page. Customers expect UPI and cash on delivery, fast pincode-wise delivery estimates, GST invoices, easy returns and a checkout that works on a weak mobile connection. A store that gets any of these wrong loses the sale at the last step.
Brandzivio builds e-commerce stores that handle these Indian realities from day one: Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree payments, COD with verification, shipping partner integration, GST-ready invoicing and a catalogue structure that Google can understand through Product schema.
We also build with search in mind. Category and product pages are where e-commerce traffic comes from, so they need unique descriptions, clean URLs, fast images and internal links that help both customers and search engines move through the catalogue.
Is this the right choice for you?
An honest view, so you can decide before you call.
A good fit when
- You sell products and want your own store instead of depending only on marketplaces.
- You need Indian payment methods, GST invoices and courier integrations.
- Your catalogue has variants, bundles or B2B pricing that a basic template handles badly.
Probably not a fit when
- You have a handful of products and no plan to grow: a ready platform such as Shopify may launch faster and cost less.
- You only need a catalogue with enquiries and no online payment: a business website is simpler.

What decides the cost
These are the things that move the price up or down.
- Catalogue size and complexity
- Ten products with a few sizes is simple. Thousands of products with variants, bundles, bulk pricing or B2B price lists need a stronger data model, import tools and search. Variant handling is a common source of hidden effort.
- Platform choice
- Shopify and WooCommerce get you live quickly with monthly or plugin costs. A custom store avoids platform fees and gives full control over checkout and speed, but needs more upfront development. The right choice depends on volume, margins and how unusual your sales process is.
- Payments, COD and shipping
- Each payment gateway, wallet, EMI option and shipping aggregator integration needs testing. COD adds fraud and return handling: OTP verification, pincode serviceability and RTO tracking save real money.
- Tax, invoicing and compliance
- GST invoices, HSN codes, state-wise tax calculation and credit notes for returns must be correct. If you sell across states or export, invoicing rules get more involved.
- Admin, reports and integrations
- Order management, inventory sync with an ERP or Tally, WhatsApp order updates and sales reports are what make a store easy to run every day. They also make up a big share of custom development time.
How we build it
A clear process, so you always know what happens next.
- 1
Catalogue and flow planning
We review products, variants, pricing rules, shipping zones and return policy, and write down the exact checkout flow before design starts.
- 2
Design of key templates
Home, category, product, cart and checkout are designed mobile first, with trust elements such as delivery estimate, return policy and secure payment marks near the buy button.
- 3
Build and data import
We build the store, import your catalogue from spreadsheets, create SEO-friendly URLs and set up Product schema, breadcrumbs and image optimisation.
- 4
Payments and shipping setup
We connect the payment gateway, COD rules and shipping partner in test mode and run real test orders through payment, shipment creation, tracking and refund.
- 5
Testing and speed tuning
We test checkout on slow networks and low-end phones, run Lighthouse and fix the biggest slowdowns, which are usually images and third-party scripts.
- 6
Launch and optimisation
After launch we watch real orders, abandoned carts and search queries, then improve the pages and flows that lose customers.
Mistakes to avoid
- Copying manufacturer descriptions word for word. Hundreds of stores use the same text, so none of them rank.
- Forcing account creation before checkout. Guest checkout with phone OTP converts better for most Indian shoppers.
- Offering COD everywhere with no verification, then absorbing a high return-to-origin rate.
- Having thin category pages with only a product grid and no useful text, filters or links.
- Ignoring mobile speed. Most e-commerce traffic in India is on phones.
- Launching without return and shipping policy pages. These are trust signals for both customers and payment gateways.

Frequently asked questions
Do you build on Shopify or custom?
Both. Custom builds give full control and no monthly platform fee; Shopify suits fast launches. We recommend based on your catalogue size and budget.
Can you integrate Indian payment gateways and couriers?
Yes. Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree, UPI, Shiprocket and Delhivery are commonly integrated.
Shopify, WooCommerce or custom: which should I choose?
Shopify is quick to launch and well supported. WooCommerce is flexible if you already use WordPress. A custom store makes sense for unusual flows, high volume or when platform fees and limits start to hurt. We help you compare total cost over two to three years, not just the launch price.
Can you migrate my existing store without losing SEO?
Yes. We map every old URL to its new URL with permanent redirects, keep titles and descriptions that already perform and monitor Search Console after launch.
Do you integrate with Tally, Zoho or an ERP?
We can sync products, stock and orders with common accounting and inventory tools through their APIs or scheduled imports, depending on what the tool supports.
How do you handle abandoned carts?
We can capture phone or email at checkout and send reminders by WhatsApp or email, within the consent and messaging rules of each channel.
